On Wednesday night, Facebook and Twitter users went wild over sightings of a saucer-shaped vessel being towed on local highways. The buzz called to mind the frenzy in 1947 Roswell, albeit in a much more modern way.

But we can take the “unidentified” out of “unidentified flying object”… sort of.

The large object is some type of military aircraft, widely reported to be an unmanned drone known as an X-47B.

However, Maryland State Police said they didn’t know what it is, exactly — only that they were told to transport it to Naval Air Station Patuxent River.

They do know that it is big: 82 feet long, 32 feet wide and 14 feet high.

The craft left from from Garrett County, Md. at 6 p.m. Wednesday. It was spotted on I-270, as well as on the Beltway as it was pulled behind a tractor trailer.
